JF-2 Water Reducing Admixture for Concrete

Advanced Concrete Admixture for Improved Performance

JF-2 is a naphthalene-based high-range water-reducing admixture used to lower the water-cement ratio in concrete without reducing workability. As a chemically synthesized, non-air-entraining water reducer, it belongs to the second generation of superplasticizers, positioned between traditional lignosulfonate water reducers and modern polycarboxylate ether admixtures. JF-2 is manufactured by LUKE Chemical for ready-mix producers, precast plants, and infrastructure contractors who need a stable, high-performing water reducer admixture for concrete at scale.

What is a water reducing admixture?

A water reducing admixture is a chemical additive that lowers the amount of mixing water needed to achieve a target slump. Water reducers work through dispersion of cement particles, using electrostatic repulsion or steric hindrance to break up cement agglomerates and release trapped water. This improves flowability while reducing the water cement ratio, which directly increases compressive strength and durability. Water reducing admixtures are commonly classified in three groups. Ordinary water reducers, represented by lignosulfonates, reduce water by about 5 to 10 percent. They are low cost and used in general concrete work. High range water reducers, or superplasticizers, include naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde (SNF) and melamine sulfonate types. These typically reduce water by 14 to 25 percent and are the category JF-2 belongs to. High performance water reducers, represented by polycarboxylate superplasticizers (PCE), reduce water by 25 percent or more and offer better slump retention. Under ASTM C494, water-reducing admixtures fall under Type A (water-reducing), Type D (water-reducing and retarding), and Type F or G (high-range water-reducing). JF-2 meets the requirements of the GB8076-2008 High-Efficiency Water Reducer Standard, the Chinese national standard equivalent to high range water reducer classifications used internationally.

Why choose JF-2 as your concrete water reducer admixture

JF-2 delivers a water reduction rate of 15 to 30 percent, which is higher than standard lignosulfonate-based water reducers and in line with high range water reducing admixture performance. Key characteristics include:
  • Water reduction rate of 15 to 30 percent, improving concrete density and lowering the water-cement ratio
  • Higher early and long-term compressive strength, supporting structural performance in load-bearing applications
  • Improved freeze-thaw resistance, impermeability, and crack resistance for durability in aggressive environments
  • Cement savings of 15 to 20 percent without loss of concrete performance
  • Slump increase of more than 10 cm at a 0.75 percent dosage, suitable for pumped and high fluidity concrete
  • Compatible with five common cement types and multiple mix designs
  • Zero chloride ion content, safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete

Applications of JF-2 water reducing admixture

JF-2 is suitable for a wide range of concrete types and construction projects, including:
  • High-strength and early-strength concrete
  • Flowable and pumped concrete with slump greater than 20 cm
  • Steam-cured precast concrete
  • Prestressed concrete components
  • Ready-mix concrete for commercial and residential builds
  • Mass concrete for dams and water-retaining structures
  • High-rise buildings, bridges, tunnels, and industrial flooring
  • Underground and infrastructure engineering

Dosage and mixing method

Powder form: 0.5 percent to 1.5 percent of total cementitious material weight.

Liquid form: 1.5 percent to 3.0 percent of cementitious material weight. Solid content is 38 percent plus or minus 2 percent, with specific gravity of 1.20 or higher. Water contained in the liquid admixture should be included in total mix water calculations. The delayed addition method is recommended for uniform dispersion and consistent performance.

Recommended dosage by strength grade

Strength grade C40, slump 8 to 10 cm: dosage 0.5 percent Strength grade C50, slump 8 to 10 cm: dosage 0.75 percent Strength grade C60, slump 8 to 10 cm: dosage 1 percent Strength grade C40, slump 20 to 22 cm: dosage 1 percent Strength grade C50, slump 20 to 22 cm: dosage 1.2 percent Strength grade C60, slump 20 to 22 cm: dosage 1.5 percent

Technical performance summary

Water reduction rate: 18 percent tested, compared to 14 percent standard requirement. Compressive strength ratio at 1 day: 180 percent, above the 140 percent standard. Compressive strength ratio at 28 days: 126 percent, above the 120 percent standard. Shrinkage ratio at 28 days: 117 percent, below the 135 percent standard threshold. Chloride ion content: not detected pH value: 7 to 9

Storage and handling

Store liquid JF-2 above 15°C to prevent crystallization during transport and application. Powder should be kept in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and moisture. Shelf life is two years under proper storage conditions.
